Obituary of Dr. Ralph Auchenbach

Dr. Ralph Auchenbach of Shadyside, born to the late Roy and Bernice of Myerstown Pa, on March 8, 1942, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022. He was a devoted husband to Leah and a proud father of Krista and Zachary (Kristen). A graduate of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a decorated officer in the US Navy. Ralph was a gifted diagnostician who held himself and his colleagues to the highest standards of medicine. Over his 50+ yr career he attentively treated thousands of patients and taught countless doctors and health practitioners the importance of compassionately treating the patient and not simply the illness. He was a rule follower just as much as a rule breaker-founded upon his strong benevolent ethos. Ralph was an avid learner, full of superfluous knowledge beyond the NY Times crossword puzzle, a voracious reader, a winter sports enthusiast, both physically and emotionally relentless, an aficionado of art with a gift for music, painting and the occasional dance. He was notably proud of his home restoration projects. He loved and laughed heartily particularly in his final years, months and days with his family and friends. A wonderful dad, a brilliant physician and a grateful adoring husband, Ralph was deeply loved. Celebration of his life will occur at a later date.
