This is Susan Su. Thanks for your teaching during the graduate program. Without the guidance of you, I would not have had an understanding and interest on comparative literature. Thank you for everything you bring to us. I’ll always remember you. May you rest in peace.
I remembered the day Professor Deeney read closely my poems and said, "Keep on writing, you are a poet." Afterwards, writing poems became a part of my life.
And I remembered when he was teaching Comparative Mythology. He encouraged us to ask questions. "There is no stupid questions, only questions unasked." To me, as a Taiwanese student shy to ask, was encouraged.
My curiosity to literature transforms into passion of reading, writing and exploring because of him.
Professor Deeney taught me not only literature, but also life. I was so lucky to be one of his students. If there is next life, I will certainly decide to be his student again.
