Obituary of Cecilia B. McCabe
Peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Loving wife of Edward G. “Jerry” McCabe, Jr. for 61 years; mother of Edward G. McCabe III (Jeanette), Lily A. Cornely, Annabel L. Fossett (Bob), Vitty M. McMahon (Pat), and Martin B. McCabe (Alicia); grandmother of Will, Paul, Georgia, Maia, Burke, Thomas & Aislyn. Sister of Mary Connolly (the late Jack) and the late Thomas Burke (the late Jean) Martin Burke (survived by Marie), Ann Harper, and Joseph Burke (the late Maureen, survived by Teresa); Daughter of the late Martin and Bridget Burke. Originally from Oakland, Cel raised her family in Highland Park before moving to Allison Park and O’Hara Twp. A member of the St. Paul Cathedral Class of 1951, Cel attended the University of Pittsburgh and worked at Mellon Institute prior to marriage. A prolific volunteer, she lent her organizational skills to the Christ Child Society, Women’s Auxiliary of the American Cancer Society, and Duquesne University Women’s Advisory Board. Cel loved gardening and was a member of the Highland Park Garden Club for many years. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, spoiling her special German Shepherd Gypsy, and travel, especially her trips with Jerry to Ireland, Italy, Medjugorje and New York City to see Broadway shows. She spent many lovely summers with her family and dear friends at Deer Valley Family Camp. Friends received at McCabe Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Friday, 1-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 10 am. Those wishing to attend, please gather at the church. Please wear masks in the funeral home and church. Interment Private.
