Dr Mary Ann, Christopher and Michael,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Dr Passero was the kindest, smartest, most compassionate, caring person I have ever met. I learned so much working with him in clinic at Roger Williams. Above all, how to really listen to each and every patient as if they were his only one. Working 3 days a week in clinic for 6 years gave me ample opportunity to learn so much about pulmonary medicine. He was a great and patient teacher. There was not a topic I brought up that he wasn't an expert on... from Murano Glass, to Shakespeare to Mozart and of course his love for jaguars. Before I went to Italy, he brought in a magazine on Murano Glass and because of him I went to the Murano Glass factory in Venice. When my son was studying Shakespeare, Dr P taught me about sonnets. When I told him my son was playing in the high school band and was learning about classical music, Dr P brought in a cassette he made himself with various classical artists including Mozart's The Magic Flute, (which my son was learning).
Such a thoughtful, kind and knowledgeable man. Of course, the first topic of the morning was always Jay Leno's monologue from the night before. He also talked much about Mary Ann's work with CF patients and how proud he was of both his sons.
RIP Dr Passero, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
