Obituary of Mary A. Sweeney

Of Morningside on Friday, December 4, 2020, age 84. Beloved wife of 53 years to the late James L. Sweeney; mother of Daniel, Diana Backner (Kevin), David (Stephanie) and Douglas (Diana); grandmother of Andrew, Patrick (Cassie), Brendan, Colin, Michael, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Connor, Simon, Jude, James and Luke; daughter of the late John and Diana Pelusi; sister of John Pelusi (Marilyn), Mark Pelusi (Betty) and the late Jean Terpack (the late Robert); also survived by nieces and nephews. Mary had a decades-long commitment to St. Raphael Parish and took special pride and joy in her service as Eucharistic Minister. As a long time Morningsider, she particularly treasured the time she spent with friends in the Card Club and Bocce League. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice. Her family will host a celebration of Mary’s life in the summer. At the present time, the viewing will be private.
