To the family of Jack Schmertz. I extend my sympathies on your loss. I do not know any of Jack's family except I met his wife one time at their house many years ago. I was a Westinghouse colleague of Jack's and relied on him extensively for a key project early in my career back in the 1970's. He and I worked on a nuclear reactor vessel irradiation testing program that was so successful that it established a new standard for such programs thereafter. It was one of my most favorite projects of my entire career. I truly enjoyed working with Jack on this project and we became friends and not just colleagues. He brought a high level of engineering expertise to this project and he and I both learned a lot throughout the duration of the project. A few years after the completion of this project I moved into new areas and, unfortunately, Jack and I did not work on any other projects together. But I have such fond memories of him that I thought I should share that with you.

Sincere condolences on Jack’s death. You have lost a unique and kind husband and father. How fortunate that Bill and I were able to be with you all for last November’s lovely 90th birthday celebration, and how grateful I am for the times spent together over the years.
