Obituary of William George Milburn
William George Milburn, age 92, of Pittsburgh, died at home on June 1, 2016. He was the son of the late Harry Allen and Margaret (Book) Milburn, and brother of the late Harry Allen, Jr., and Margaret Falvo. He was retired Senior Vice President of Mellon Bank where he headed Operations Administration. Mr. Milburn was active in the financial services industry, serving on numerous committees of the American and Pennsylvania bankers associations, and the Bank Administration Institute, including terms as Chairman of their Securities Processing and Trust Operations groups. A World War II U S Army veteran, he served with the 752nd Tank Battalion. From 1950 to 1952, he was with the Army's European Command Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Housing. Mr. Milburn was also active in the Roman Catholic Church, and with many civic and charitable organizations. He was Chair of the financial advisory board of the Province of St. Augustine, Director of the Seraphic Mass Association, a Trustee of the Sisters of Mercy Continuing Support Trust, a Member of the Capuchin Friars International Investment Board, and a Trustee of the St. Francis of Assisi Foundation. Mr. Milburn was also a past Trustee of Franciscan University of Steubenville, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, and the Renaissance Center for the Arts. He was named a Knight of St. Gregory the Great by Pope Paul VI, and received the St. Francis Quiet Light Award, and an honorary doctoral degree from St. Francis University. He is survived by nephews and nieces and their families. There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of Mercy Church on Monday, June 6th at 10 am.
