Marilyn McNamera was my most influential professor at Rosary College/Dominican University beginning in 1968. My transition to Rosary was bumpy and one day I received a note from her: “how much have you eaten, slept, and played today?” In addition to the incredible impact her scripture courses had on me, she reached out, inviting me once to her family’s home in Oak Park and having a letter arrive in my mailbox in Fribourg prior to arrival my junior year. There I studied under her mentors and colleagues and always felt grateful for her direction and support. I visited her once in Pittsburgh many years ago and have kept in touch through Christmas card greetings and notes til now. She will always be in my thoughts and heart. ...an incredibly important person in my life.

My deepest sympathy to all of Marilyn's family. I was the Administrative Assistant in the History Department from 1987 to 2000 and had the opportunity to meet Marilyn during that time as she often had lunch with me and a wonderful group of women from various departments at Duquesne. She was one of the nicest people I have ever known and my sentiments were shared by all the others in our group. One other who was always at lunch with us was Mary Ellen Lewis and as she lived in Butler, I knew she would not have received word about Marilyn. I left a message at her home and later got a call from her husband telling me that she had passed away in September. Mary Ellen was the Administrative Assistant in the Theology Department and I thought you had probably heard her name from Marilyn and would want to know of her passing.

Rare is the person who can listen deeply to another, hear beneath the words, and connect to the poetry of another’s soul. Marilyn was such a rarity! I loved her and Tom too, although I met them later in my life. What a healing gift their friendship was to me. I regret not being able to be present in Pittsburgh. Sending a memorial gift to the Thomas Merton Center. Love.

I'm sorry for your great loss. May you find comfort in Psalms 34:18  "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted. He saves  those who are crushed in spirit " . Our heavenly Father Jehovah does not leave us without hope of seeing our love ones again. Acts 24 :15 assures us "There is going to be a resurrection. May your warm memories also give you strength to endure these difficult.
