Obituary of Anna Margaret Dixon
Anna Margaret (Ann) Dixon, 99 years old, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and recently of Crown Point, Indiana, took the gracious hand of God and passed away on January 26, 2017, in the loving presence of her family and friends in Crown Point, Indiana.
Anna M. Dixon was born Anna Margaret DiCocco, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. Divina Maria (Donatelli) and Nazarreno DiCocco on December 22, 1917. Anna was a first-generation American. Her mother emigrated from Abruzza, Italy, and her father, who was born in Rome, Italy, emigrated from Manchester, England. Anna and her family moved to Pittsburgh when she was five years old. Anna went on to graduate from George Westinghouse High School. Her career led her to become a production supervisor in the Civil Service Division of the United States Navy during WWII. After the war ended, Anna married her sweetheart, Edward Leo Dixon, on February 7, 1948, and started a family.
Anna and Ed were the loving parents of four children, Richard, Lawrence, Gregory, and Karen. The couple raised their family in the Morningside/Stanton Heights area in Pittsburgh. Anna was actively involved at St. Raphael’s Church and Grade School, as a founding member of the Women’s Confraternity, as a longtime member of the Church Choir, and as an active school volunteer. Anna also volunteered in the Morningside Community, where, in her later years she assisted in the operation of the summer lunch program for children, and at the age of 75 she was given her first computer to assist her in managing the program. She was active in local politics, and enjoyed the company of her fellow seniors at the Morningside and Lawrenceville Senior Centers each week. Anna was an enthusiastic participant in the Senior Olympics Programs and Competitions, and won more medals than she had space to display. Friends and neighbors will remember her warm laugh and seeing Anna briskly walking to and from Church and the Senior Center in Morningside well into her 90’s.
